• This year your president and secretary, as well as key members of the corporate office
were invited to represent the CUA at the 2020 EAU in Amsterdam. Although the CUA 1945-2020
has had a presence at the EAU Congress since 2012 and we meet periodically with their
leadership to dialogue on common issues, Amsterdam was meant to feature the first YEARS OF CUA
EAU-CUA joint plenary session. The session, entitled “Urology beyond Europe.” was
organized by past presidents Yves Fradet and Joe Chin. It was designed to feature key
opinion leaders from Canadian urology duking it out with their European counterparts
over various uro-oncology topics. Picture this: Canada, with less than one tenth the
population, and twice the land mass of the EU, debating representatives from 27
European countries. Classic David and Goliath material. And we know how that story
ended… Unfortunately, a small virus got in the way of the EAU meeting March 20-24
and the grudge match had to be postponed. Stay tuned to place your bets.

• For the first time in 24 years, our annual meeting was scheduled to return to Victoria, BC.
The updated Fairmont Hotel and convention centre looked fantastic. Your CUA 2020
team had a series of productive on-site planning sessions with local organizing chairs
Linda Lee and Jeff McCracken. All venues were secured, and The Void was booked.
Eleven guest speakers and their topics were lined up, 350 submitted abstracts were
reviewed by scientific chairs Keith Rourke, Peter Black and their team. Things were
shaping up for a most memorable, informative and enjoyable meeting. Unfortunately,
the 75th anniversary celebration of the CUA planned in Victoria will have to wait. The
core leadership of the CUA felt that the most responsible course of action was to cancel
the annual meeting, given the magnitude of the COVID-19 pandemic. We did not take
this decision lightly. My apologies to all of you who had worked so hard up until now to
	 make the meeting possible.

• Rest assured, the CUA is still alive and well. Your corporate office is hard at work planning
a series of regional “Best of CUA 2020” presentations around Canada later this year in
order to highlight what was meant to be presented in Victoria.

I hope to see you all at next year’s CUA meeting in Niagara Falls once this pesky virus is
dealt with!
