              o Advocacy is an important dimension of clinician leadership


              o Numerous Canadian associations have validated the integral
                   role of physicians as advocates, including the CMA, and the

                   Royal College of Family Physicians and Surgeons of Canada

                   (RCPSC)

              o Advocacy competencies are described by these associations

                   as responding to individual patient’s needs, and also to the

                   needs of communities or populations for system-level change
                   - in a socially accountable manner


              o The best advocates are also the best leaders
