Prostate-specific membrane antigen (PSMA)
• Type II integral membrane protein
• Expressed on the surface of prostate epithelial cells
• Glutamate carboxypeptidase
• Undergoes endocytosis
• Limited expression in non-prostate tissues such as
salivary glands, duodenum
• PSMA is upregulated in most prostate tumors
• > 85% of prostate cancer cells are PSMA-positive
• Increased expression correlated with:
• Increasing grade and metastases
• Post-treatment with ADT
• Disease progression and the transition to mCRPC
• Poor prognosis
