PD - Caveats

◼ PD is both a physically and psychologically devastating disorder

◼ PD is not a rare disorder - 3-9% men affected

◼ PD does not tend to resolve spontaneously < 13%

▪ 50% get worse, 40% same

◼ There is no non-surgical cure for PD- but Tx can stabilize and/or↓deformity

& ↑ function

◼ Tx-related change occurs at “glacial speed”

◼ Surgery is the most rapid and reliable Tx

◼ Diagnosis is easy- treatment remains a challenge
