Canadian Urological Association Scholarship Fund (CUASF)
AWARDS FOR 2012
CUASF was established in 1973 as a means of supporting promising Canadian urologic researchers and therefore to
facilitate Canadian Urology research productivity. This early career award plays a vital role within our organization,
enabling young clinical researcher to get their foot in the door with respect to peer-reviewed support and financial backing at a critical
point in their careers. This past year we had some outstanding young investigators apply for the CUASF and the committee has
awarded 4 new scholarships:
• Matthew Eric Hyndman – University of Calgary
NMR based Metabolomic Assessment of Prostate cancer
• Girish S. Kulkarni – University of Toronto
Avoidance in Patients At Risk For Prostate Cancer and in Patients With Low Risk Prostate Cancer: Developing Tools for
Personalized Medicine

Community award
A Study to Identify the Prevalence of, Risk Factors for, and Effect of Alternative Anti-microbial Administration in Patients
who Carry Ciprofloxin Resistant Enteric Organisms in a Population of Patients Undergoing Transrectal Biopsy of Prostate
We are also very pleased to highlight the recent collaboration with Astellas Pharma Canada and the CUASF in developing a CUA-
Astellas Research Grant. This program, separate from the CUASF scholarship awards, was developed to support peer-reviewed
research that promotes excellence in Urology research with the ultimate goal of improving patient care. See page 352 for 2013
Grant information. The recipients of this Grant are:
