3. All CUA Corporate Office staff, CUA Board Members and Annual Meeting Scientific and Local Arrangements Chairs
are required to complete an on-line learning module on EDI awareness at the beginning of their appointment. This fall,
the CUA Board members and Committee Chairs enjoyed the opportunity to participate in a workshop on ‘Uncovering
Unconscious Bias and Leading Inclusivity’ led by expert Karima Kara. This was an eye-opening learning experience for
all, and represents only the beginning of an extremely important shift to alter our thought processes and change culture
within the organization.
4. The CUA will include educational topics in its CME offerings to highlight issues related to EDI principles. Several topics
related to EDI and clinical practice are being considered for the 2022 annual meeting.
5. The policy will serve as a guide to ensure the best people representing all constituencies within our organization have
the opportunity to participate in CUA activities that best align with their interests and talents. An attempt will be made
to promote junior faculty, foster female involvement that reflects the growing number of female urologists training
and practicing in Canada and to encourage and involve visible minorities. To that end, a review of the CUA’s
corporate office statistics with respect to female members involvement in CUA committees and educational events as
panel/podium moderators has shown a steady increase from 9% in 2018 to 17% in 2021. With the formal application
by the Women in Urology Group to become an official affiliate of the CUA, we hope to further enhance engagement
of our female colleagues.
As always, we welcome comments from members on this very important issue. Please feel free us if you have ideas or
would like to get involved!
