Unmet Need?
• Significant incidence of VTE in patients undergoing major cancer
surgery that is not adequately mitigated by inpatient prophylaxis
• Extended prophylaxis with LMWH (28 days) has been examined in 6
RCTs + 7 meta-analyses + 5 non-randomized cohort studies in
abdominopelvic surgery
• Data supports the notion of VTE risk reduction with extended
prophylaxis
