CUA’s Plan to Develop a Diversity and Inclusion Policy
Recent events within Canada and throughout the world have once again shone the spotlight on gender, racial, and cultural
inequalities. Unfortunately, medical organizations are not exempt from perceived or real concerns about lack of diversity
related to CME and leadership representation.
At the recent CUA virtual summer board meeting, a proposal was put forth to develop a formal policy addressing issues
related to diversity and inclusion. The intent of the policy would be to provide a set of guiding principles to ensure that
diversity, equity, and inclusion are explicitly addressed and uniformly practiced in the governance of the CUA and all
educational offerings.
The policy would serve as a mechanism to promote equity and inclusion and to reduce bias, intolerance, and discrimination.
It would apply to all members and staff of the CUA.
In order to capture the essential elements of this policy, we would like to invite any CUA member interested in participating in
the development process to contact the CUA corporate office (tiffany.pizioli@cua.org) no later than November 15, 2020.
Involvement of a wide cross-section of our membership would be most welcome!
