Etiology of IPT (Incontinence after Prostate Treatment)





                Post Radical Prostatectomy


                Largely SUI driven by anatomic and nerve changes from surgery

                Rhabdosphincter incompetence alone sole cause of SUI in 40-92% of cases

                Large fraction (>90%) recover 6-12 months


                5-50% remain incontinent (depending on definition; MD vs self reported)





                Post Radiation Therapy


                Leads to long term tissue damage, inflammation

                Higher rates of DO (detrusor activity) 78% vs 38%

                UI after RT without surgery, investigate DO





                Post Surgery for BPH


                Transient SUI in between 30-40% of men, declines to <0.5% longer term
