Critical incidents in surgery & how to cope with loss of a patient

Speakers: Stuart Oake & Andrew Matthew

Objectives:

  • Discuss the impact of patient death on surgeons (including case examples).
  • Develop skills to change the narrative when communication with hospital administrators/patient advocacy to encourage them to take physician well-being into consideration.
  • Learn to advocate for surgeon well-being in the climate of Covid Recovery.
  • Review resilience and navigating the space between compassion and burnout.

ACCREDITATION

This activity is an Accredited Self-Assessment Program (Section 3) as defined by the Maintenance of Certification Program of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada, and approved by CUA. You may claim a maximum of 1 hour of credit.
